How to use orthodontic toothbrush?

Orthodontic toothbrushes are designed to clean teeth with braces or other orthodontic appliances.

Orthodontic toothbrushes have softer, more flexible bristles that effectively clean teeth, brackets, wires and other orthodontic hardware without damaging braces.

Additionally, the shape and size of the brush head are optimized for reaching those hard-to-reach areas that traditional toothbrushes may struggle to access.

Here are some tips on how to use an orthodontic toothbrush effectively:

1. Select the right type

Orthodontic toothbrushes often have U-shaped bristles or special tufted bristles to help clean around brackets and wires more easily.

Choose a brush that is designed for use with braces.

2. Rinse with water

Before brushing, rinse your mouth with water to loosen food particles stuck to your braces.

3. Angle the brush

Angle the toothbrush at 45° so that the filaments reach the gum line. Brush with light pressure and small movements.

4. Clean around brackets

Use gentle, circular motions to clean around the brackets and wires.

Pay special attention to areas where food particles can get trapped.

5. Brush your teeth and tongue

Brush the inside, outside and biting surfaces of the teeth with a toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste twice a day for at least two minutes. Don't forget to brush your tongue and the roof of your mouth to remove bacteria and freshen your breath.

6. Use interdental brushes or floss threaders

For areas that are difficult to reach with a regular toothbrush, consider using interdental brushes or floss threaders to clean between teeth and around wires.

7. Rinse with water

Rinse your mouth thoroughly with water after brushing to remove any remaining toothpaste and food particles.

8. Visit your orthodontist

Be sure to visit your orthodontist regularly for checkups and cleanings. They can give you more advice about your oral health.

Maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial for the success of your orthodontic treatment. By using an orthodontic toothbrush correctly and consistently, you can ensure that your smile stays healthy and beautiful throughout your braces journey.
